New Year, New Home?

Happy New Year to everyone!  2019 came in with a bang!  As usual, we probably all overindulged in one way or another on the Eve.  And then made our resolutions for the New Year the following day.  Weight loss, fitness, self-care and healthy eating are always favorites.  And the percentage of “failed” resolutions is overwhelming high.  But what about resolving to achieve your real estate dreams this year?  Renting and ready to make your first home purchase in Delaware?  Downsizing or upsizing needs here in Delaware?  Second home at the Delaware beach?  It’s all attainable if you have the right agent working alongside you towards those goals.

Give me a call so we can discuss what you may be trying to attain.  Resolve to get the ball rolling and making your dreams a reality this year….right now!

Open Houses

I often host Open Houses on the weekends as part of my agent service to my clients.  Open houses are a great way to see the homes for sale in an area that you want to relocate.  Pictures and online photos can only do so much for houses that are for sale.  Attending an open house for an area beach home allows you to see the surrounding neighborhood, chat with any neighbors that are out and about, and to touch, see, and feel the home personally.  Open Houses are normally advertised in the local paper and online at real estate agency websites.  Often they have more in depth informational packets about the home that you can take with you.  Some may even offer refreshments and snacks- always a bonus!

So it you are just beginning your search for a Delaware Beach area home, schedule a few Open Houses to begin the process of narrowing your search for your new home.  Then you can be well on your way to finding your next “home sweet home”!

Settlement Day

I have to say that there is such a good feeling about helping people find the home of their dreams here in the beach area.  From the start, you develop a relationship with your client based on the information they give you each time you interact with them.  Their search for a home in the beach area becomes your goal and top priority.  And when settlement day rolls around, the process is complete.  What a happy day for your client.  They’ve just made the investment of a lifetime and you were instrumental in helping them with that.

Settlement days always have me walking around on my tip toes like I just got my hair done or got a funny text from one of the kids.  One of the perks of being a realtor and probably the best!

Cheers to settlement days!!

Thanksgiving Travel Safety Tips

Over 150,000 Delawareans are scheduled to hit the road over this Thanksgiving holiday.  Here are some tips to arrive at your destinations safe and sound.

Travel at off peak hours.  Nothing new but most of us don’t try to plan our travel accordingly.  Below are the best times to put the wheels to the road on your trip:

  • Tuesday and Wednesday before 6 a.m. and after 11 p.m.
  • Thursday and Friday before 7 a.m. and after 9 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday before 9 a.m. and after 9 p.m.

Stay aware of traffic.  Whether you choose Google Maps, Waze or some other nav app, keep checking for any delays, construction or accidents so you can re-route if necessary.

Keep abreast of weather changes.  Check the weather prior to your trip start.  Many apps give hourly forecasts.  Nasty weather can’t always be avoided but you can potentially drive during the least worst part of bad weather.

Ensure you have a auto travel kit.  Your kit should contain a blanket, flashlight with extra batteries, drinkable water, cell phone charger (like any of us leave the house without that!), and basic flat tire tools.  As the old adage says, “better safe than sorry”.

DO NOT TEXT.  Texting and driving causes accidents and deaths.  It can wait.  Or if it can’t, pull over at the next safe spot and then proceed on your way.

So if you’re hitting the road to spend this Thanksgiving with friends or family, take your time and make sure you arrive alive!

Sunday Snippets

So a new addition to the website blog…..Sunday Snippets.  As I sip my coffee and surf the ‘net, I’ll be posting snippets of info that I find interesting or unusual.

Today’s Sunday Snippet-

Mary Had A Little Lamb author responsible for making Thanksgiving a National Holiday

The Continental Congress declared the first Thanksgiving in 1777, but the custom fell out of use around 1815. It wasn’t until Sarah Josepha Hale, best known for writing “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” petitioned several presidents to make it a national holiday that it actually became one.

She finally succeeded in 1863 when President Lincoln issued a proclamation. However, Thanksgiving didn’t officially have the set date as the fourth Thursday in November until 1941.

Thanks for the carb loaded, black Friday shopping prep, family and friend filled holiday Ms. Hale!
